Precise positioning without jamming: new KIPP locating pins with ball-end and internal thread
KIPP is expanding its range of locating pins with ball-end to include variants with an internal thread. The new pins simplify assembly and clamping wherever positioning accuracy and repeatability are essential: the ball-end guides the component into the correct position and reduces the risk of jamming, while the internal thread provides additional options for securing the pin in a fixture.
When fitting components, even a slight tilt or lateral force can cause a part to jam, much like a drawer pushed in at an angle. This complicates assembly and requires additional handling to position the component correctly.

KIPP locating pins in the K0350 and K0351 series address this problem. The ball-end and adjoining lead-in chamfer centre the component and compensate for minor positional and angular deviations, allowing parts to be joined without excessive force, even during manual assembly or when guidance is imprecise.
Four versions for different requirements
The pins are available in four versions. Forms A and B have a ball-end without flats, while Forms C and D are flattened. Form B also features a shoulder that serves as an assembly stop and determines the press-fit depth in the fixture.
A non-flattened pin can be combined with a flattened pin to locate the same component. The threaded hole, available in blind or through-hole versions, provides secure yet detachable fastening and makes the pins easier to install and remove.
From assembly fixtures to robotic workstations
The new pins are suitable for assembly and clamping fixtures, where they guide components and ensure repeatable positioning. They can also be used in machine tools, for rapid fixture changes in robotic applications, and at testing and production stations.
Hardened tool steel or stainless steel
The locating pins are made from hardened tool steel or 1.4305 stainless steel with a Kolsterising surface-hardening treatment. The functional surfaces are ground for a precise fit. The range covers diameters from 5 to 50 mm, allowing designers to select the size, material and fastening method to suit the specific fixture or baseplate.
